Swati Nigam’s leadership is driven by both strategy and purpose, making her a transformative force in the nonprofit world. As Executive Director of American Friends of HelpAge India, she is at the forefront of efforts to support aging populations with dignity and care on a global scale.
Swati’s career began as a dental surgeon in India, but her passion for public health and social impact led her to look beyond individual care to the broader systems shaping community well-being. Armed with a Master’s in Public Health and a PMP certification, she expanded her expertise in the U.S., shaping initiatives & raising millions in support of programs over the years, at powerhouse organizations like Pratham USA, Ronald McDonald House Charities, and CARE. Across each role, her ability to mobilize resources, forge partnerships, and drive sustainable impact has left a lasting mark.
During her global health work, she recognized a critical gap—older adults, particularly in underserved communities, were often overlooked. Determined to change that, she made a conscious shift to elder care advocacy, ensuring dignity, support, and resources for aging populations worldwide.
Now based in Austin, Texas, Swati extends her impact beyond her professional role. She mentors women restarting their careers—whether after a break or a move across borders—and co-hosts the Austin chapter of a South Asian organization supporting families caring for aging parents in both India and the U.S.
With her unique combination of healthcare expertise, nonprofit acumen, and a deep commitment to service, Swati is not just leading an organization—she is driving a movement that bridges generations, cultures, and communities. Her story is a testament to the power of leadership that blends knowledge, empathy, and action to create lasting change.
