Start an IWP Chapter in your City
If you are passionate about the empowerment of Women from the Indian Subcontinent, we would be happy to help you get setup with a Chapter in your city. Here are some basic rules we'd love for you to stand by:
- Indian Women Professionals has the objective of bringing women together to network professionally. Women can come together to talk about their businesses, their side hussles or their primary profession. Our lives are a continuous stream of intermingled things from work to home to side hussles. We realize that often times women have to wear multiple hats and members of IWP are here to support each other in each role. The things we'd like to avoid are:
- Conversations that go in the direction of children's school and their activities (We love our children but this isn't the forum to talk about them - Sorry)
- Conversations that should be saved for social forums - our homes, food, jewelry, clothes - really all those things that are conversation material for parties. (If any of these are relevant to your business, then it is totally ok to talk about these, so long as you're not at the forum for marketing or promoting your products). The intention of the Chapter is to support each other in the methodology of the business and not to promote your products.
- We understand that many women are in Corporate jobs but are in the transition stage to entrepreneurship. The IWP organization is here to support your endeavors in this regard.
How does a Chapter Work?
It takes a passionate leader to start an IWP Chapter. Here are some bylaws and benefits:
- Each Chapter has it's own Whatsapp Group. The group will be setup by the IWP Staff and only they are allowed to create new groups for new Chapters.
- The name Indian Women Professionals/ IWP/IWP World are a registered Trademarks and may not be used by anyone other than those authorized by the company.
- The purpose of the Chapter is to bring women together in person at a regular cadence. We suggest that a Chapter meeting be set up atleast once a month. In Austin, this is a monthly coffee meet set up at a coffee shop (the same coffee shop every month). Setting it up at the same spot and publishing it well ahead of schedule allows people to plan ahead.
- It is encouraged that there is a topic for discussion every month.
- The Chapter Leader is required to show up every month regardless of whether other members show up or not .This is the commitment to the group that is required from the Leader. Hence we need someone deeply motivated and driven.
- Being a Chapter Leader is a responsibility that comes with its own benefits. Leaders get to meet all members in person and get to be seen as a local authority for the group. This also allows them to hone their organization skills and be in the 'know' when it comes to job availability and about the culture of different companies.
- There is a $100 Chapter fee for starting a new Chapter. This goes towards the marketing of the Chapter and it's activities.
